Title

East Pediment G

Description

This statue was featured in the Parthenon and is thought to be representing Hebe, who was the Greek goddess of youth and the cup-bearer of Zeus and the gods until her marriage to Heracles. She could also be representing Hecate, Artemis, or Iris as well, there is no clear depiction as to who she truly is. Here she is depicted moving away from the center of the row in a fashion that causes her billowing robes to flow behind her. In her hands it is thought that she held a shawl, which a piece of it is still seen on the figure. Her robes are dramatically depicted to give the audience the vision that she is moving with great haste.
