Description
The existence of one of Duchamp’s most famous pieces of art, “Fountain” is the perfect example of art not always being agreed upon as art. Duchamp submitted the piece to the Society of Independent Artists under a pseudonym. The society, which Duchamp helped to form, was supposed to accept any piece of art but rejected the piece as “indecent.” This censorship angered Duchamp and caused him to resign from the Society and move to New York.
